Another activity that involves usage of a paddle is the so called SUP, the stand up paddling. Together with the classic rowing, a sports discipline that we’re so proud of in Split, being a home of renowned Olympic rowers, and with the canoeing, the new variant of surfing comes from Hawaii.
Stand Up Paddling is a fun and relaxing activity that involves a light full body training, and is an unusual and extraordinary sort of a sightseeing tour that lets you enjoy the numerous bays and beaches in and around the city and the Marjan hill.
This sport is considered to be safe and not dangerous, does not require certain fitness levels – even the children aged 8 and more are allowed to participate. Rubber inflatable boards and a paddle are used, if you haven’t used it before, the instructors will teach you the basics with the emphasis on balance which is important for this sport. It would be up to you to have swimsuits, sunglasses, hats, sunscreen and a bottle of water.
There are a few spots in the city and in wider area where SUP equipment may be rented. Growing popularity of this sport is confirmed by the international regatta being held in Podstrana near Split.
