The history and the origins of nordic walking are tied to nordic ski running, due to great similarity in performing the movements. Nordic skiers have performed it for years during their summer trainings as an acceptable form of movement that simulates the skiers running when there is no snow. The history of nordic walking goes back to 1930. and even futher back. The first presentation of nordic walking as a new sport was in Finland in 1997. SInce then, the number of afficionados has grown to more than 30 million only in Europe.
